EJC Status as of July, 2019
EJC is intended to serve our community for generations to come. As such, we have taken a methodical, thoughtful, and intentional process to build an organization and approach that will fulfill our mission and vision.
The first couple of years saw us exploring the concept of EJC via a feasibility study, three “community conversations” held in the Fall of 2017, and the development of a Board of Directors and organizational structure. We then established relationships with numerous community partners and hired an architecture team to help us clarify our space needs.
The summer of 2018 involved an exploration of one particular property that did not work out but gave us tremendous insight and knowledge.
During the past year, we have established a Stakeholder Council of invested community members and been steadily raising funds toward the eventual purchase of a building. With our community partners, we have been discussing collaborative programming ideas. We held our first community event, our End of Passover Party, at Revolution Hall in April 2019, and have planned other events.
Also in April, we got received our official 501c3 tax-exempt status, and in May, established a fund at the Oregon Jewish Community Foundation.
Our goal is to begin a formal property search in the Fall of 2019. We invite our entire Portland-metro Jewish community to join us. Together, we will nourish and sustain Jewish life. Thank you for your interest and support.
